About

Western Sand established in the winter of 2008, when Tyler Hains and Jimmy Bradshaw met when teaching guitar at a children's Rock School in their hometown. During various jamming sessions, they both realised there was a natural connection between them and decided to form a band.
Tyler had known drummer, Nathan Kay since they were 13 as they had played together in previous bands throughout their teen years. Tyler therefore knew that Nathan would be up to the job as drummer.

For the first few months, the band operated as a 3-piece while they started writing their first songs and trying to find a candidate to the fit the bill as bassist. By the time their first live performance came around at the Thomas Tripp Late n' Live in Christchurch (don't look for it, it's not there any more), they still had nobody to complete the rhythm section, so they called in an old friend, Paul Ballantyne to stand in for this one night. This "stand in" ended up providing a contribution that spanned a total of 21 months until other commitments forced the band to let him go.

In his place they recruited Findlay Hotchkiss, aged just 16 when he jumped onto the Western Sand wagon, he is a fast establishing bassist and settled in very quickly. He was in fact the very first bassist that Tyler, Jimmy and Nathan originally auditioned when they first got together. In the transitory 2 years, Findlay had developed into the perfect bassist for the band, and things had come full circle.

Western Sand are becoming one of Dorset's most exciting new rock bands, earning a strong reputation after performing countless shows around Bournemouth and Southampton.

Now, they are broadening their horizons by playing to crowds in the capital and all around the UK, including The Intrepid Fox in Soho, Camden Town's Dublin Castle and in 2010, they opened the main stage at the Endorse It In Dorset festival. Western Sand have also shared a stage with some well established rock acts, such as The Psychics, Nazareth, Heaven's Basement, Voodoo Six, Reckless Love, Jettblack and The Treatment.

Stopping these guys looks to be a truly impossible task, so within a couple of years, they hope to be up there with the best, brightest and loudest!
