Following a calling-card EP, produced in Los Angeles by Charles 'Kallaghan' Massabo, Magoa have created quite a clamour with their debut, 10-track album, Topsy Turvydom, which sees the band crowned as Kings of Chaos. In this seminal LP, the Magoas proclaim their core manifesto, denouncing the insidious, mind-numbing matrix of Web 2.0, and the enslavement of a generation to the corrupt creeds found in the mediocrity of mainstream religion, media and capitalism. The band exhorts their audience to wake up and reject this establishment anaesthetic, and focus, instead, on freedom of expression and the pursuit of pleasure – and, above all, to be true to themselves.

That they achieve this with a large measure of sardonic humour, as well as derision and ridicule, is what makes the band unique; and it is as transparent in their videos and performance persona as it is in their lyrics. Released in June 2013, the music video for “Estamos Locos”, for example, is clearly a tongue-in-cheek parody of the Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up”.

Topsy Turvydom, distributed in France by Season of Mist, was released on November 1, 2013, and has already been lauded in the French music press (MyRock, VS Webzine, etc.). On November 16, at a hugely successful launch event in the prestigious Divan du Monde in Paris, the Magoas held their own, sharing the stage with bands like Darkness Dynamite, Tess and Hell Rules Heaven. On December 5, they headlined the first day of the Nantes Metal Fest at the Ferrailleur (a well-known venue in the western France, home to prominent bands like Agnostic Front and Red Fang) and brought 2013 to a close with a tour finale at the EMB Sannois, in the Parisian suburbs.

Presently, the band plans to spend 2014 promoting their album, especially outside France, and are very interested in playing venues in the UK for the first time.
