About

On their much anticipated sophomore album 'A Hiding Place', the Münster/Germany-based blues rock four-piece ZODIAC, in many respects, embarks on new terrain. Compared to the critically acclaimed debut album 'A Bit of Devil', the songwriting has gained in depth, the sound is more forceful and clear, and the vocals are more varied. Due to their reputation as an enthusiastic live act – last year, for instance, they enthralled their audiences all across Europe, amongst others on WDR Rockpalast, at the Roadburn festival as well as support for Graveyard, Spiritual Beggars or the Sword – in 2013 the dream of any aspiring band is going to come true for them: Apart from a planned European tour in November, they are embarking on a four-week US tour as support for stoner-legends Monster Magnet.

From the word go, the four musicians knew where they wanted to go: Rooted in blues, enriched by elements from classic and hard rock, but never wallowing in bygones, ZODIAC have created a sound that clearly marks a unique spot in the wide-ranging field of handmade rock music. With songs such as instantly captivating "Downtown", the epic "Free", the piano-ballad "Leave Me Blind", the playfully funky "Underneath My Bed" or the mesmerizing Neil Young-cover "Cortez The Killer", it is to be expected that their second album will excel the debut and further establish the band internationally.

As early as the time immediately after the band was founded in 2010, ZODIAC experienced attention and rapidly growing success. After the four-piece had been founded by drummer Janosch Rathmer (Long Distance Calling) and singer/guitarist Nick van Delft – later on joined by experienced musicians Stephan Gall (ex Rocketchief) and bass player Ruben Claro – their self-titled debut EP from 2011 was sold out very quickly and met by enthusiastic feedback. In 2012 their debut album 'A Bit of Devil' received an even stronger reaction with a wave of positive reviews and media acclaim as in the following examples:

Guitar: "The best retro rock record from Germany since years"
Heavy: "ZODIAC is the best band from Germany in this genre"
Classic Rock: "ZODIAC will be a serious candidate for the title: newcomer of the year"
Rock Hard: 8/10 Points, Soundcheck #6

In producer Martin Meinschäfer (Henrik Freischlader, Donots) the band found a veteran of the genre, who after the debut also imbued the second album 'A Hiding Place' with a warm and clear sound. Having partly been recorded live in the studio, 'A Hiding Place', successfully brings together modern technology and the earthy sound of the 70ies.

The album will be released this fall on Napalm Records/Spinning Goblin in Europe, Prosthetic Records in North America and Bickee Music in Japan.

Fans of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy or modern acts such as Joe Bonamassa, Graveyard or Rival Sons, stay alert: ZODIAC celebrate inventiveness, tradition and varied songwriting. On 'A Hiding Place' they have created a pretty unique blend of independent-minded rock music that will truly enthrall you – both live on stage and on record.
