Bloodstock Metal Madness  – Day Tickets Now On Sale!

After last year’s amazing Bloodstock Festival (see our review here) Nick Holmes takes a moment to refresh why you NEED to go this year:

As the crappy washout of a summer continues, there are less than four weeks until thousands of serious metal-heads land in rural Derbyshire for this year’s Bloodstock Festival. The grounds of Catton Hall, Walton-On-Trent will be rocking and moshing to possibly the best line-up the event has had so far.

It features a wide mix of bands crossing the rock and metal spectrum, from the Satanic spectacles of Watain and Norwegian black metal pioneers Mayhem – both playing in daylight! – to the UK comeback of Nergal and his Polish comrades in Behemoth and part-time golfer, full-time legend and godfather of schlock rock, Alice Cooper! Not forgetting Robb “Lord Browneye” Flynn and Machine fuckin’ Head! There will also be sets from Dimmu Borgir, Testament, Paradise Lost and influential Canadian metal loons Anvil – if you have still not seen the movie “The Story of Anvil”, do it. Amazing stuff. That is just main stage, named in memory of the great Ronnie James Dio, and also featuring an all-star tribute to the great man on Friday.

The Sophie Lancaster stage will remind everybody to continue fighting prejudice – look out for the S.O.P.H.I.E foundation’s stall and find out about their amazing work. Bands playing include French experimentalists Alcest, stoner rockers Orange Goblin, the stupendously great Anaal Nathrakh and rock n’ roll bad boys Viking Skull, plus female-fronted battle metallers Pythia to name just a few.

Bloodstock also makes a huge effort to uncover the next generation of talent, with its Metal 2 The Masses contest which feeds the bill for the New Blood stage. In the past few months bands around the country have taken part in regional heats, with the winners gaining a stage slot. The fans can vote on who they think is the best act of the weekend and that lucky bunch will then get to play at Germany’s huge Wacken Open Air festival, as well as Slovenia’s Metal Camp event. The stakes sure are high!

As well as all that there will be a very heavy, very metal shopping village, a fairground and, on Saturday, a themed fancy dress late party with some great prizes for the best looking goblins, demons and trolls! Speaking of such creatures, event partners Hobgoblin will be providing a variety of proper ales – no need to drink watered down pissy “lager” like most festivals!

Needless to say, Metalgigs will be there covering the craziness – and there are still some tickets available, including VIP weekend with camping. Prices start at only £115.00, with LIMITED day tickets now on sale from £55.00.

So get your gig on and join the heavy metal hordes!
