Damnation Festival 2013

OK enough already Damnation!! As if the line up wasn’t already pretty darn tasty the fesitval have just announced 6 new bands in the form of melodic doom act Katatonia, Gorgoroth’s re-incarnation in the form of God Seed, Year Of No Light, Shining and Mourning Beloveth.

Katatonia will be playing ‘Viva Emptiness’ in it’s entirety, Anders Nystrom, said: “Since it looks like November will bring us Damnation, we’re absolutely certain there’ll be some Swedish export of atmospheric dark metal coming your way with it! We couldn’t be more psyched to celebrate our ‘Viva Emptiness’ album anniversary at a festival we never got to play before. So Leeds, join us and be damned!”.

In an interesting turn of events due to a change in the licensing laws at Leeds University Union there is the possibility of the Riley Smith Hall being opened up.  This would mean that the festival capacity could increase to over 4,000 BUT unless ticket sales show a guarantee of numbers this will not go ahead.  We’re not gonna try and pretend here at metalgigs that we’re veterans of Damnation but what we can tell you is we’ve been the last 2 years and it’s been really awesome.  Being indoors in a city means the weather doesn’t matter, and last year we managed to book a super early deal (around now) which worked out as £15 each a night not far from the university. At £34 the ticket prices are ridiculously cheap considering the 6 bands are joining the likes of Carcass, Cult Of Luna, Vallenfyre, Negura Bunget and many more, with lots more yet to be announced.  At that price if you’re thinking of going why not book a ticket now to show the festival there is support for the new hall.  If you do make it we’ll see you there, and in the meantime here’s that new Carcass track in case you’ve been in a cave for the last week \m/

Head to the offical Damnation Festival website now to get your tickets here.
